I recently  read an interesting article in MSN Realestate about 11 things Women Want In A Home. The top 11 wants included: big closets, jetted spa bathtubs, centrally located security features, comfortable social spaces, laundry room, low maintenance features, separate master bath, 2 car garage, great kitchen, and smart layout. Does this sound like you? Is it a list just for women? ( I don’t think so,  but women tend to spend more time at home and definitely develop an emotional relationship with it.)

A home should be a safe haven where lasting traditions, relationships, and learning takes place every day. Our modern lives are busy, often stressful, and changing faster than ever imagined. At Woodstone, we definitely find that our clients want their home to reflect their values and personal style. Even though families are busier than ever, we are spending more time in our homes and enjoy sharing it with friends and family. Homes that foster independence, reduce clutter, improve physical and mental health, encourage team work and family time, and make everyday life more manageable are goals always shared at the beginning of the design and building or remodeling phases.

This all said, the top wants always involve organization, ample storage space and efficiency improvements. Our client lists are– kitchens designed for multi tasking and multiple cooks. Mudrooms to unload the day and stay organized; master bathrooms designed for privacy, relaxation and easy sharing; walk-in closets with lots of personalized built-in storage or  dressing rooms ;second floor laundry rooms that are close to the bedrooms are popular to encourage family participation and reduce time; a home office for telecommuting, working at home, or studying; all-in one security/technology systems, casual living spaces with gas fireplaces for everyday relaxation and family fun; a work-out room/in door sports court to stay healthy regardless of the weather, a 2-3 car garage with plenty of storage space.

No matter the size, your home should feel like your castle. Make every inch of it efficient and don’t forget to maximize your living spaces to the outside by designing a complimentary patios, decks, screened in porch, out-door fire pits, and more.
